History of the C219

The Mercedes-Benz CLS pioneered the four-door coupe concept that would reshape luxury automotive design globally.

Development began in 2001 under Chief Designer Peter Pfeiffer, combining the E-Class platform with distinctive coupe proportions and a fastback roofline.

The C219 CLS debuted at the 2004 Paris Motor Show to critical acclaim, immediately establishing itself as the definitive luxury grand tourer.

Production concluded in 2010 after six years and approximately 355,000 units, making way for the more powerful second-generation C218.
